ADAPTIVE RE-USE OF AN EXISTING WAREHOUSE INTO A KITCHEN CO-OP AND CAFE INCLUDING A NEW 2-STORY STRUCTURE WHICH WILL HOUSE 6 NEW ARTISAN INDUSTRIAL STUDIO SPACES. CONTINUITY OF THE URBAN FABRIC IS CREATED ALONG THE STREET EDGE BY MEANS OF A NEW SALVAGED MATERIAL 'ART WALL' INTENDED FOR SECURITY AT NIGHT, WHILE OPERABLE PANELS ALLOW A VISUAL AND PHYSICAL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE PEDESTRIANS AND ARTIST COMMUNITY COURTYARD DURING THE DAY. THE DEVELOPMENT SITS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE UPTOWN OAKLAND ART MURMUR DISTRICT AND SEEKS TO PRESERVE THE CHARACTER OF THE HISTORIC WAREHOUSE WHILE INFUSING BOTH A CLEAN CONTEMPORARY BACKDROP AND A PLAYFUL INTEGRATION OF INDUSTRIAL SALVAGED MATERIALS.
